The CSP sign-up process will be different than previous USDA conservation
programs. Participants are required to conduct a self-assessment to determine on
their own whether or not they are likely eligible for the program. To help
people complete this assessment, Iowa NRCS is holding at least 12 workshops
throughout the watershed later this month.
Before rushing to taking the self-assessment, NRCS recommends you complete a
preliminary checklist (DOC)
(if you downloaded the checklist before June 22, please download this newer
version). If you can
answer “yes” to the checklist questions that apply to the land you wish to
enroll, you would potentially be eligible to participate in CSP. If so, you
should call 866-578-3927 to reserve a spot at one of our workshops on June 24,
28, 29, 30 and July 1.
If you answer “no” to any of the checklist questions that apply to the land
you wish to enroll, you should still consider completing the self-assessment in
the next few months to help you prepare for future CSP signups and learn ways
you can better protect the natural resources on your farm. You may call the
local office to get a copy of the self assessment workbook, either in hard copy
or CD, or go access the online self-assessment.
