suggested script: Marty Adkins OF USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service explains why they are celebrating.

microphoneMarty Adkins Cut 1 (WAV, :18): (Transcript) Wetlands enrich the environment and benefit people. They clean water by providing natural pollution control, reduce flooding and soil erosion, and supply habitat for wildlife. Wetlands are places many animals and birds build nests and raise their young. Birds use wetlands as rest stops when migrating.

suggested script: Why celebrate In May?

microphoneMarty Adkins Cut 2 (WAV, :04): (Transcript) This is the month wetlands are teeming with new animals and plant life.

Suggested Script: NRCS has had a substantial role in wetland development.

microphoneMarty Adkins Cut 3 (WAV, :27): (Transcript) Over the past fifteen years wetlands restoration programs have been very popular. In that time, NRCS and its partners have helped restore one hundred thirty three thousand acres of wetlands in Iowa. This popularity continues today. Currently we have a backlog of over three hundred applications where land owners want to restore wetlands. Getting that work done will add twenty eight thousand of additional wetland acres to the state.

Suggested Script: To learn more about wetlands, contact your local NRCS office.
