microphoneCut 1 No-Till (WAV, 00:34)

(Transcript) "
Like no-till farming, no-till gardening is a way to garden without the expense and work of tilling. Besides saving money on fuel and rototiller rental fees, no-till gardening allows your soil to stabilize and maintain a healthy biodiversity. Tilling disrupts your soil's natural patterns and can cause erosion, loss of organic matter, and soil compression. These are the very things that will reduce garden yields. Tilling a garden is counter-productive. It makes the garden beds nice and loose for a few days, but tillage also breaks up the soil into small particles that are more easily compacted the next time you walk across the soil surface."
