Tague Named Iowa LICA Conservationist of the Year
February 12, 2008 Soil Conservation Technician Melinda Tague with NRCS in Marshalltown was named 2007 Conservationist of the Year by the Iowa Chapter of the Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) at the group’s Annual Meeting and Convention January 8 in Des Moines. LICA is a nonprofit association of contractors dedicated to the professional conservation of soil and water. Tague provided technical assistance to LICA before and during a two-day field event at the chapter’s demonstration farm in Marshall County last August, where vendors, contractors and other interested groups test out equipment. Tague assisted area and state engineers in the survey and design of a five-acre wetland. Field day participants from across Iowa tested six new dozers, all hooked up to GPS design of the wetland. “Throughout the two days, more than 100 contractors built the wetland project,” said Tague. “We kept everyone aware of the design and what the final project was to look like.” Mark Erpelding, Northwest district officer for LICA in Algona, said he was amazed at how Tague worked with the contractors. “It takes a real talent to be organized and patient enough to work with that many contractors,” he said. “Melinda spent a lot of extra time preparing before we even got there. She had done her homework.” Marshall County District Conservationist Dana Holland said the conservation award is well-deserved. “Melinda was out there every day overseeing construction and working with the contractors,” he said. “She has a very good working relationship with LICA and all the contractors in Marshall County.” -30- Contact: |
