Grazin' Days - A Pasture Management
Workshop to be Held this Summer
May 27, 2005
“Grazin’ Days – A Pasture Management Workshop” is a series of on-the-farm
pasture meetings to be held this summer around the state of Iowa for producers
in the process of installing or who have already installed a rotational grazing
system.
Landowners who received funding through the Environmental Quality Incentives
Program, or EQIP, to install rotational grazing systems are also invited to
attend.
Each meeting will be conducted in “pasture walk” format at a host landowner’s
farm. The host will describe his/her system and, along with Dan Morrical, Iowa
State University Professor of Animal Science, and Brian Peterson, State
Grassland Conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service,
answer questions for attendees. ISU Extension Area Livestock Specialists and
NRCS Grassland Conservationists will assist with programs located near their
area of responsibility.
Topics
The following topics will be covered at each event: plant identification,
manure distribution, decentralized watering systems, weed and brush control,
managing forage heights, pasture condition scoring, and contingency plans during
weather crisis (too wet or dry).
