Flag of Thanks Presented to State Conservationist

Denis Schulte (L), an Army Reservist who recently returned from one year of service in Iraq, presented an American flag that was carried by troops throughout Iraq to NRCS State Conservationist Leroy Brown and Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations Bruce Trautman.

Schulte works for USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Davenport, Iowa, and made the presentation in appreciation for the support NRCS personnel gave to him and his family during his deployment.

“Not only did eleven different NRCS offices send boxes of supplies every other week, but staff members did yard and household chores to get our house ready for a high school graduation party while I was gone,” said Schulte.  “Presenting this flag was a small way to say ‘thank you’ to my civilian co-workers for all of their help and support.”

Schulte, a major with the 3D Corps Support Command at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, was responsible for planning the positioning of 2500 supply and transportation trucks in Iraq.  He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in combat.

Currently serving as an Acting District Conservationist, Schulte lives in De Witt, Iowa, with his wife Michelle and children Kyle, Nick and Ryan.  Schulte is a 1974 graduate of Breda High School and son of Joan Schulte of Carroll.
