Iowa NRCS Hosting Conservation Workshops for Beginning and Limited Resource Farmers

During September, the Iowa Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will host three additional conservation workshops geared toward the needs of beginning and limited resource farmers. These workshops will cover identifying resource concerns, the conservation planning process, Farm Bill conservation programs and using Technical Service Providers. The workshops, which will run from 9 a.m. until noon, will be held in Storm Lake , Lewis, and Des Moines. Two earlier workshops were held in Fayette and Iowa City.

A team of conservation planning professionals will discuss how the USDA-NRCS can assist landowners conserve the natural resources on their land through conservation planning and use Farm Bill programs to help fund the improvements. Through the 2002 Farm Bill, beginning and limited resource farmers are entitled to additional cost share rates for conservation practices included in their conservation plan. These provisions will be discussed during the workshops.
