Web-Based Energy Estimators

Reporter:

This is a time of year MANy farmers plan for next year’s growing season. Here’s NRCS’ dICK TREMAIN:

Dick Tremain (WAV, :41):

There are many strategies to save money and improve crop yields. USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service offers web based energy tools that allow producers to look at a number of production scenarios to see which one may be best for them. For example, how much money can a producer save using no-till or ridge-till over conventional tillage? The Tillage Energy Tool may show fuel and tractor time can be cut nearly in half using no-till.

Besides tillage, the NRCS Energy Estimators cover animal housing, irrigation, and nitrogen. They are available at www.ia.nrcs.usda.gov
