The prairie is periodically burned by North Star Steel to replicate a prairie's natural conditions. Prairie plants evolved with fire, and need to be burned every few year's to stay healthy. |

Students plant flowers in the prairie to increase diversity and add some more native species. They also removed plants in an area that was being made into a trail and replanted the grasses and flowers at the high school to make another prairie there. |
