The Asian Pacific Islander Program
Manager works toward enhancing equal access to all employment opportunities for
Asian Pacific American employees within NRCS.

- Promote and establish
effective and equitable participation of Asian Pacific Americans in the work
force.
- Enhance career development
and advancement of Asian Pacific American employees in NRCS and improve
under-representation of Asian Pacific Americans.
- Encourage awareness of the
impact of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures and contributions.
- Market natural resource
conservation programs to the Asian Pacific American communities.

Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon Exhibit
Dec 19, 2009 - 2/28/2010
“Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon," created by the Smithsonian Asian
Pacific American Program, is the first Smithsonian exhibition to tell the
story of the Vietnamese-American experience in America, from the significant
influx in 1975 to the present. It explores the themes of challenge,
contribution and change, emphasizing the vibrant diversity of the
Vietnamese-American community. This prestigious exhibit is coming to Iowa
State Historical Building, Des Moines from December 19, 2009 to February 28,
2010.
This is a collaborative project of CAPI, the API community in Iowa, and Iowa
Department of Cultural Affairs (http://www.vietam.org/).

Access Point Opens at the Wat Lao Temple
1808 E Park Ave, Des Moines, IA 50320
The Laotian community was chosen by Iowa Workforce
Development to receive a satellite office known as “Access Point.” Access
Point is a joint project between Wat Lao Temple, Iowa Asian Alliance, and Iowa
Workforce Development. The purpose of the Access Point is to allow the
community access to Iowa Workforce Development services, such as job banks for
employment and unemployment filing. We currently have four volunteers and we
are looking for more. Please contact Phensy Pane (515-778-3084) if you are
interest in being a volunteer. Please stop by to see the new office.
The Access Point office hours for October 2008 are as
follow:

Saturdays in October 4, 11, 18, 25 (9am to 12 Noon)

Mondays and Thursdays in October 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23,
27. 30 (10am to 12 Noon)
- Tuesdays and Fridays in October 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31 (9am to
12 Noon)
