Upcoming Training Opportunities

Science to Solutions – Reducing Nutrient Export to the Gulf of Mexico (http://www.swcs.org/en/conferences/s2s_science_to_solutions/)
The purpose of the workshop is to explore science-based solutions for reducing sources of nutrient loads exported from the Midwest portion of the Mississippi River drainage system to the Gulf of Mexico. The focus is on four basins: the Missouri, Upper Mississippi River, Ohio, and Tennessee Rivers. The workshop will explore three themes, including (1) potential solutions indicated by regional modeling, watershed and field-scale research, and socio-economic studies; (2) data and information gaps that limit scientific analyses and assessments; and, (3) science-based information needs of managers and policy makers to implement solutions and nutrient reduction strategies. The workshop consists of 5 sessions with invited speakers, breakout workshop discussions and contributed posters.

Certified Conservation Planner Training for TSPs
Conservation Planning is the integral "first step" that all crop and non-cropland conservation decisions are built upon. Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska have partnered with the Heartland Regional Water Quality Coordination Initiative and the University of Wisconsin Extension Service to develop Certified Conservation Planner Training for TSPs. This is a required course for anyone wishing to certify as a TSP in the new CAP CNMP Plan Approval category or in the Certified Conservation Planner category. The course will be held Nov. 16-20, 2009. Registration will be limited to 50 TSPs. TSPs in Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska will receive a discount on registration cost.  Direct online registration is available (after 9/22) at http://www.heartlandwq.iastate.edu/events.htm. For additional information on registration, contact Joe Lally at 515-294-1496; for additional course registration, contact Judy Martinson at 515-323-2229.

Cultural Resources Training Modules 7 & 8

A limited number of spaces are available to TSPs working in Iowa to attend the Iowa NRCS employee cultural resource training being held November 3-5 in Cherokee, Iowa. There is no registration fee for this event, but you must register to attend.  This training is designed to increase awareness and knowledge of NRCS’ cultural resources stewardship responsibilities. A pre-requisite for this course is the completion of the on-line AgLearn Cultural Resource training, modules 1-6.

Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center

The Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center offers webcasts, which are open to the public. CCAs can earn CEUs which may be credited towards NRCS TSP CNMP certification, CNMP Plan Approval certification and Certified Planner certification and the new Conservation Activity Plan (CAP) CNMP Plan Approval certification. The one-hour webcast seminars are typically held on the third Friday of each month at 2:30 pm (eastern), 1:30 pm (central), 12:30 pm (mountain) and 11:30 am (pacific). Hard to obtain feed management webinars can sometimes be found on this site.
