pilot project under the 'Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food' initiative
for farmers to establish high tunnels - also known as hoop houses - to
increase the availability of locally grown produce in a
conservation-friendly way. |

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced five Iowa watersheds,
known as Focus Areas, were selected to participate in a new initiative
to improve water quality and the overall health of the Mississippi River
Basin. These watersheds are the Boone, Maquoketa, North Raccoon, Upper
Cedar (shared with Minnesota) and Lower Grand (shared with Missouri.) (A
very small portion of northeast Iowa is also part of the Initiative
through the Root watershed in Minnesota.) |
