NRCS Announces National Water Quality Initiative in Iowa

Des Moines, Iowa, May 8, 2012 — State Conservationist Richard Sims announced the launch of a new National Water Quality Initiative committed to improving three impaired waterways in Iowa. Managed by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the initiative will provide funds to farmers in the selected watersheds for implementing conservation practices.

Workshops Offer One-on-One Help for Farmers New to USDA

Specialty crop farmers, organic producers and other farmers unfamiliar with working with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its partner agencies are invited to learn how USDA can help them protect their land and be more productive by attending a workshop on May 24 in Marengo or June 5 in Woodward.

Seasonal High Tunnel for Crops

Seasonal High Tunnel Funding Available through USDA's Organic Initiative

Funding for seasonal high tunnels and other conservation practices is available for Iowa certified organic producers and those transitioning to organic production through the USDA’s Organic Initiative. More than $1 million is available to help the state’s organic producers install various conservation practices, said Dave Brommel, Iowa’s Organic Initiative coordinator.
